Hello

My name is David Freeman. I am a Principal and Senior Teacher of Teachers.

David's Story

David began his Pilates training in New York City in the mid 1990s. His bad back brought him to the doorsteps of the New York Pilates Studio® Teacher Certification Program. David trained extensively for more than 4 years with Master Elder Romana Kryzanowska and Bob Liekens who was Senior Teacher Trainer for Romana and co-authored with Romana the original Pilates Teacher Training Manual. After more than 1,000 hours of training, David was certified in 1999 as an Authentic Pilates™ Instructor by Romana Kryzanowska.

At the request of Romana, in 2001 David opened a Pilates Teacher Certification Center (Pilates Institute of Fort Lauderdale) and began certifying Classical Pilates instructors. In 2005 David joined with Brett Howard and cofounded the United States Pilates Association ® (USPA .®) and David continued certifying Classical Pilates instructors for the next 18 years. David and Brett are still continuing the work of the U.S.P.A. ® as U.S. Pilates ™ under the Classical Pilates USA ™ Teacher Training Program. In 2021 Jenifer O’Mara, another Second Generation Instructor, joined David and Brett.

Over the past 22 years, through these Programs David has trained and certified hundreds of Classical Pilates Instructors and in so doing has helped keep alive the Classical Pilates Methodology as taught by Joe, Clara and Romana. David has been a Teacher of Teachers since 2001, and he has been actively involved in certification and educational programs throughout the U.S. David has also been fortunate to have gathered insights from Pilates Elders Lolita San Miguel, Ron Fletcher, Mary Bowen and Jay Grimes.

David is a graduate of Georgetown Law Center (1969) and has been retired from the practice of law devoting his full time and attention to the Classical Pilates USA ™ Teacher Certification Program.  David’s essay “My Voyage Through the World of Pilates” is featured in Peter Fiasca’s book “Voices of Classical Pilates” a collection of essays from 28 Classical Pilates Instructors. David was also featured in Pilates Style Magazine in an article entitled “My Fountain of Youth”  (October 2016) and can be seen on Pilates Anytime giving his personal insights on Romana Kryzanowska (https://www.pilatesanytime.com/workshop-view/1745/video/Pilates-David-Freeman-on-Romana-by-David-Freeman) as well as other training videos (Gratz and various studios throughout the US).
